Etsy Shop Now Open

I'm delighted to say that after lots of hard work my Etsy store, ClaireLordonDesign,  is now open!  I have always wanted to open my own Etsy store and now that dream is a reality.

Greeting cards, art prints, and magnets are currently available with more coming soon.  I also do custom orders.

One of my many greeting cards

My new slogan is that my work is "Made with a Smile". I create fun greeting cards and products that I (and hopefully you or someone you know) would love receiving. I hope they put a smile on your face and some joy in your heart.

The environment is very important to me and all my cards are printed on 100% recycled paper. They are also packaged in 100% recycled plastic sleeves and shipped in 100% recycled rigid mailers. All these materials are recyclable so the reusing cycle can continue. Other items in my shop may not be shipped in these materials, but I reuse and recycle whenever possible.

This is just the beginning and I can't wait to keep adding more cards, illustrations, art prints, and more!

Wayfarers Ransom Piece

I'm excited to announce that I'm going to part of a group show with about 250 other people in November.  Wayfarers, a studio in Brooklyn, is putting together a clever group show called Ransom.

Remember those notes made up of cut up newspaper and magazine clippings?  (For some examples see here.) This is the base of this show.  Every artist was given a word in a 250 word story.  They could render it however they wanted to as long as it was hangable on a wall and no larger than 8.5" x 11".  At the show all 250 words will be placed on the wall in order and the note will be revealed.

This was really exciting because when I signed up for the show I had no idea what word I was going to receive.  In August I received my word "or".  I brainstormed many ways in which I could illustrate this word and decided to do an acrylic painting of a seal saying "or".  I love sea creatures and thought that this piece could later be used on it's own, and not just within the context of the show (possibly within a child's room).

The show opens Saturday November 9th at Wayfarers, 1109 DeKalb Ave., Brooklyn NY 11221 and it will be up through December 1st.  I'm really excited to see the whole story and see how everyone interpreted their words. I will post photos from the show and how my word interacts with the words around it.

Halloween Typography Skull

Halloween is my favorite holiday so I decided to draw Halloween phrases on a skull.  I'm excited because I'm having this made into a t-shirt!  I love having designs made into physical products. If you want your own shirt, art print, or something else the design is available in my Society6 store.

Radio Interview for KUER About Sweatshirt Design

Recently I entered a contest for KUER (a National Public Radio station in Salt Lake City).  They needed a sweatshirt design for their Fall Fund Drive.  I was delighted to learn that my design was chosen for their hoodie as a thank you gift for people who pledge a certain amount during their fund drive. I posted about my design a few blog posts back and you can view it here.

A few days ago I had the opportunity to go to a recording studio in Manhattan and be interviewed about my design! It was really exciting and unlike anything I had done before.  I was nervous, but I also had fun.

Below is my interview with Terry Gildea from KUER about my sweatshirt design.

Last night I even heard myself on the radio!  It was surreal.
I hope it helps bring many people to help support public radio.
Many thanks again to KUER for the opportunity to be interviewed and share my design.

Winner of KUER Sweatshirt Design Competition

I'm so excited to announce that I am the winner of KUER's sweatshirt design contest! KUER is the NPR (National Public Radio) station in Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm originally from Salt Lake City and I listen to KUER online while I work. There were almost 100 submissions to the contest and I'm so happy and elated to have my design selected. The sweatshirts will be available during their Fall Fund Drive September 18- 27 as a thank you gift for people who pledge a certain amount.  Make sure you listen for more information on how to get your own sweatshirt. My design in another colorway will also be on their annual report.  KUER is going to mail me a sweatshirt and an annual report and I can't wait to see the designs in person!  When I receive the items I will post a photo of them. Also, on Monday I will be going to a recording studio in Manhattan to record a few sentences for the station to use during their fundraiser! Follow my Twitter  for updates on Monday about the experience.

Moyo Directory

I just made a profile on the Moyo Directory!  The Moyo Directory is a directory for surface designers to share their work and projects. It's exciting to be part of this listing and showcase my work to potential clients looking specifically for surface designers.

I would appreciate it if you would "love" my profile.  The more "loves" I get the better my profile does in search results.

Lilla Rogers Global Talent Search Journal Cover

I just entered the Lilla Rogers Global Talent Search.

This contest is to win representation by Lilla Rogers Studio for two years!  It involves a few rounds, the first being a journal cover brief.
For this first assignment we were briefed to create a playground themed journal as if Paperchase were our client.  I wanted my journal to appeal to kids and decided that if I were a child I would love sea animals on it.  This assignment was very fun and I enjoyed incorporating a playground theme with undersea animals.
On August 1st fifty designs will be chosen to move on to the next round of the competition.

Wish me luck!

Update: I didn't make it to the next round of the competition, but I learned alot from this brief and enjoyed creating it.  Congratulations to everyone who made it to the next round!

San Francisco Illustrated Map

I made an illustrated map of San Francisco to complement my map of New York City.  I have been to San Francisco many times and enjoyed illustrating the different landmarks and had fun with the hand lettering and typography.

It is available on my Society6 store as a print, pillow, t-shirt, iPad case, and more.

Happy Father's Day! Beer Label

Father's Day was yesterday and for my father I designed him his very own beer label for his home brews.  I incorporated his favorite mountain near where he lives and a bicycle because he loves cycling.  He loved the design and wants more labels. He also wants a print made.

Website Redesign Coming Soon

I'm in the middle of redesigning my portfolio website.  Here is a sneak peek of my new design in progress.  It's been a few months since I've touched some web design and it's amazing how much I forgot when I wasn't actively using it much.  After working a bit I've gotten back in web design mode. Coding is a challenge, but I love it.

Southern Utah Road Trip 120 Film

Here are some photos I took with my Lubiel 2 camera on my recent road trip to Southern Utah.  There's something magical about using film.  The photos include Capitol Reef National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Zion National Park.

Here is one photo I took on my roadtrip.  It was taken in Zion National Park.  I would have loved to sketch the scenery but it was below freezing!  Click the photo to see it larger.

Merry Christmas!

My pastor recently asked me to create some art for the service bulletin on Christmas Eve.  He wanted me to base it on the theme of light.

I had much fun playing around with textures in this piece.  I also might use it for my own Christmas card.
